Dear WKU, #PacktheHouch Against North Texas

It has been about one year since I wrote my initial “rant” entitled “Dear WKU ‘Fans’.” Oddly enough, I find myself, at the same point in the season, frustrated at some fans for similar reasons. While I may come across as a bit brash and strike a nerve, it is not my intention to be a jerk. It has been my mission, since my very first post, to light a fire beneath WKU fans and push us to become a more dedicated and fervent fanbase.

Against a 3-6 (now 3-7) Florida International team, WKU attendance hit a 2016 low of 15,516 fans. So why should Hilltopper Nation #PacktheHouch against a 4-5 North Texas squad?

Last Home Game

This is it, folks. This is the last home football game.

2:30pm

Did you know the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is loosely based on WKU fans and their constant dissatisfaction of game times?

11:00am: “Too early. I cannot wake up in time.”

7:00pm: “Too late. I do not want to tailgate (or whatever you choose to do before a game) for 10 hours.”

2:30pm: “Justtttt right, so I can watch the primetime games afterward!”

WKU was extremely fortunate to not receive an 11:00am game in 2016. As it is the case almost every year, fans tend to gravitate more toward the 1:00-3:30pm time slots. Well, here ya go Hilltopper Nation. This Saturday’s game is at 2:30pm as you like it!

You want WKU to join another conference?

Oh, you want to complain about Conference USA, do ya? You want to join a new conference, do ya? You think sitting on your butt, complaining from a couch rather than attending the game will fix any conference woes? As we have learned and discussed day in and day out, attendance means everything when joining a conference. So if you want WKU to get out of the Sun Belt 2.0, I recommend you stop being a couch warrior and show up to the game.

PROMOS!

If ticket prices have prevented you from attending a game:

Senior Day

This is our final home farewell to so many WKU and nationally ranked greats: Forrest Lamp, Ace Wales, Taywan Taylor, Nicholas Norris, Max Halpin…just to name a few.

These guys, among the rest of the graduating seniors, have shaped and built WKU Football through, I imagine a lot of, blood, sweat, and tears. The least you can do is show up and show support for these hard-working young men: young men who played their hearts out no matter if there were 15k fans or 23k fans.

Lock up the East Division

With a WKU win against North Texas and an Old Dominion loss to Southern Miss., WKU will clinch the C-USA East title and earn a spot in the C-USA Championship. Back-to-back, baby! 100% sure this is a team that deserves our support.

National Stats Galore

If your argument for not attending a WKU Football game is that they are not SEC (or any other P5 program): 1) Bye. 2) You clearly do not understand the team's continued conference/national success AND recognition. Let's take a look at these top 25 players or groups:

1. Mike White - #6 total passing yards (3,057)

2. Mike White - #8 completion percentage (69.0%)

3. Mike White - #4 yards per attempt (10.1)

4. Mike White - #11 longest pass (87)

5. Mike White - #10 passing touchdowns (24)

6. Mike White - #5 passer efficiency (176.6)

7. Ace Wales - #24 total rushing yards (936)

8. Ace Wales - #23 rushing yards per attempt (6.9)

9. Ace Wales - #2 rushing touchdowns (17)

10. Taywan Taylor - #3 total receiving yards (1,174)

11. Taywant Taylor - #5 (tied) receiving touchdowns (10)

12. Nicholas Norris - #16 total receiving yards (934)

13. Nicholas Norris - #12 longest reception (87)

14. Nicholas Norris - #5 (tied) receiving touchdowns (10)

15. Skyler Simcox - #5 (tied) longest field goal (53)

20. Nacarius Fant - #21 punt return yards (172)

21. Nacarius Fant - #2 (tied) punt return touchdowns (2)

22. WKU Offense - #5 total yards (5,065)

23. WKU Offense - #12 yards per game (507)

24. WKU Offense - #4 total passing yards (3,396)

25. WKU Offense - #9 passing yards per game (339.6)

26. WKU Offense - #6 total points (423)

27. WKU Offense - #12 points per game (42.3)

28. WKU Offense - #19 offensive efficiency (74.0)

29. WKU Defense - #24 total allowed rushing yards (1,081)

30. WKU Defense - #8 yards allowed per rush attempt (3.2)

31. WKU Defense - #11 allowed rushing yards per game (108.1)

32. WKU Special Teams - #12 special teams efficiency (68.2)

...but that was just to name a few.

For six consecutive seasons, WKU Football has earned bowl eligibility and has NEVER dipped below a 7-5 overall record. We are in a new era of Hilltopper Football: nothing like we have ever seen before. So I must emphasize that THIS IS THE LAST HOME GAME (unless Louisiana Tech loses to UTSA or Southern Miss., but that is a different story).
